Giada+LaunchpadS on Ubuntu 13.10

Post by adallafontana » Wed Mar 19, 2014 2:39 pm

Hi,
LaunchpadS (Novation) works right on Ubuntu 13.10 without install custom driver, but without colored-led-map; with Giada in output I have the led light when I press the button but just this one, not other functions.
What can I do for mapping led on Ubuntu for working with Giada? I tried research on-line but without result.

tnx

a.

Hi,

We never got our hands on the Novation Launchpad, but I guess that the colored led functions are driven by something else than simple and raw MIDI inputs. What are you trying to do exactly? Does your device work well with other softwares, without custom drivers?

No, not on Ubuntu, I think the softwares must have the possibility of mapping. Works right only on MacOSX with Ableton 9 (I have the lite version) or with an iPad with the Novation Launchpad App:

I have tried also Luppp or others but with same result, I think the mapping is a part of the software not of the driver.
I will hope of using the similar mapping also with Giada, but i think is too complicate for now; Giada doesn't have the division of loops on pad at column.

The way for mapping Launchpad S with Giada on MacOSX is use Novation Automap, Giada control the samples, Automap control the light.
On Ubuntu I tried use Wine with the Automap Windows but without success, Automap for now doesn't works on my configuration.

Exist something with Processing for control light of Launchpad but are too complicate to use.

That's a very interesting setup, too bad it doesn't work with Wine! Basically you are sending traditional MIDI events to Novation Automap, which in turn adds further data for the leds to light up correctly. Right?
We should add this information to our how-to section. It would be great - if you wish, of course - to add a few words on how you configured Giada or Automap to work together.

For me, with Launchpad, the way to do the pads to light up is to connect midi out to midi in (both from launchpad).
If you want a MIDI sequencer to light the notes its playing, you have to send the notes out thorugh channel 3.

It might work also for Launchpad S
