Configuration help: no signal in Giada

Post by Neb » Tue Jul 14, 2020 8:49 pm

I've got:
- A Rubix ASIO usb audio interface.
- EZdrummer2 standalone outputting to my interface.
- My midi controller inputting into Kontakt, which is then outputting audio to my interface.
- I'd like to capture the signals outputting from Kontakt and EZD2 into Giada.

But no matter what audio subsystem I try (ASIO, WASAPI, or DirectSound) or which input and outputs I select in these three programs, I can't get any signal from Kontakt or EZD2 routed into Giada. I've tried using 'Voicemeeter Virtual ASIO cable', but that didn't work either.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

BTW, Giada seems like a really nice program. Well done, and thanks for making available for free.

Hi Neb and thanks for your kind words. Let me start from the basic & naive question: does your setup work with other audio apps?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes. I use Win10, Reaper and VST instruments, and some of those VSTi's have standalone versions.

So I'm inputting from a midi controller to a softsynth, which then generates audio.

What I'd like to do is be able to quickly capture a synth part on the spur of the moment and loop it, so then I can learn the chord progression and improvise over it on guitar. I could do that in Reaper, but I'm looking for a way to do it really quickly, without having to set-up a Reaper project.

But I can't work out how to get the generated audio from the softsynths into Giada.

Part of the problem was that Giada configuration changes have to be saved two or three times in order for them to 'stick' when I restart Giada. Sometimes when I thought I had changed an input or output, it hadn't actually changed. But even though I'm watching out for that now, I still can't get any signal from the ASIO subsystem into Giada. With Voicemeeter, I managed it with Directsound, but the latency was far too great.

I'm not 100% familiar with the Windows platform but I guess you are looking for something like an audio loopback that allows you to record sounds produced by your system. I'm working with a similar setup pretty often on Linux and I rely upon the loopback mechanism provided by PulseAudio - in other words, something external to Giada.

Ok so this something that shouldn't happen and is worth investigating. Could you please enable logging, try to reproduce the problem above and then paste the log file content here? Thanks!
