New in Giada and this kind of software

Post by Nikola » Sun Aug 25, 2013 2:37 pm

Hey there I'm Nikola. For many years I'm beat boxing, but I did it few times in front of audience and people were amazed. But I think it's not enough for me, I'm not satisfied with sounds I can produce. I would like to be able to
use loops
to make bass sounds higher
to have echo
to use distortion like for guitar
to have wah wah pedal, and all in real time.
I have access for guitar distortion and wah wah pedal, but I don't know how to use them to change my voice

I must say that I never used any programs for sound except players, so I don't even know basic principles of this programs, but I learn fast and I'm willing to research and I'm aware that I will need time to get all this gear set up.

So I thought that at least looping I can accomplish with Giada, and I hope for some real time effects. So i guess I need your help.

With the installation I had problem, I downloaded last version 0.7.2., extracted, and then tried to install .deb file with Package Installer. During process it showed error saying

Code: Select all

Your system has broken dependencies. This application can not continue until this is fixed. To fix it run 'gksudo synaptic' or 'sudo apt-get install -f' in a terminal window
Synaptic says that package giada:i386 is broken. 'sudo apt-get install -f' doesnt help.
But at the program is installed but I guess with some bugs. In config it doesn't recognise my microphone.
I opened it through terminal 'giada_lin' and this the code:

Code: Select all

To summarise
From technical point:
I need to fix program working
I need to make microphone working

From music part:
How to the looping?
And how to add some effects?

Is there some god documentation that can help me with starting program. I know there is 5 video tutorials but is there something more deep?

Does any one can recommend me where to start with whole my idea with beat boxing, looping and effects?

Hello!
Yes their are the 5 tutorials (http://www.youtube.com/user/giadaloopmachine) and their is the documentation (www.giadamusic.com/documentation/). The docs should cover everything that the program can do.

Watch the videos, especially the microphone one, because it will be very useful in your case.

For FX, you will need VST's for your wah and distortion. There is a tutorial coming out on VSTs, but as of right now. Its a little buggy.

Sorry, I have no idea how fix your problem.

Reply is you have any more questions!

Hi Nikola,
Nesbit gave you some precious hints in his post for what concerns the tutorials and the docs.
I need to fix program working
You could try the "unofficial" packages kindly crafted by tangostudio, here:

http://download.tuxfamily.org/tangostud ... n/g/giada/
I need to make microphone working
I suggest to switch to PulseAudio instead of ALSA, at least for your first microphone check.
From the output you pasted I see that the soundcard is busy (Device or resource busy): try to close any other sound app on your system and run your test again.
How to the looping?
http://www.giadamusic.com/documentation-performing
http://www.giadamusic.com/documentation ... nd-samples
http://www.giadamusic.com/documentation ... s-and-midi
And how to add some effects?

Have fun, and feel free to give us your feedback :D
