Thank you ergomatic and thank to all others who reported the issue. We are currently trying to figure out what's going on. We build Giada on OS X Mountain Lion (i.e. 10.8) where it works like a charm. Now, I guess we need someone who is brave enough to compile Giada from source on 10.11.x with debug symbols enabled and see what happens with a debugger, like GCC or something similar. By the way I can upload a precompiled version here - compiled on Mountain Lion of course - if it helps. Thanks!

I quote my man FFT. Moreover, donations for a 15-inch macbook pro for testing purposes are welcome :D

Very well guys, here you will find a binary compiled on OS X Mountain Lion, neither stripped nor processed with UPX (i.e. compressed) for testing. I presume there could be something wrong with the compression part. So let us know if they work properly. Compiled version: Giada 0.12.2.

>>> Giada 0.12.2 for OS X, unstripped/uncompressed

Hello, Thank you for all the good work on Giada.
I am way out of my league with this and have no idea if it will help at all but just wanted to send you a report of what happened when I attempted to load the binary:
>>> Giada 0.12.2 for OS X, unstripped/uncompressed
BTW, I am running Mavericks 10.9.5
From the terminal I received the following:

news-MacBook-Pro:~ MY USER NAME$ /Users/MY USER NAME/Desktop/giada ; exit;
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libsndfile.1.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/MY USER NAME/Desktop/giada
Reason: image not found
Trace/BPT trap: 5
logout

[Process completed]

After getting this notification I used homebrew to install libsndfile. After restarting my mac I again attempted to open the Giada 0.12.2 for OS X, unstripped/uncompressed and received this:

news-MacBook-Pro:~ MY USER NAME$ /Users/MY USER NAME/Desktop/giada ; exit;
dyld: Library not loaded: librtmidi.2.1.0.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/MY USER NAME/Desktop/giada
Reason: image not found
Trace/BPT trap: 5
logout

[Process completed]

So, I used homebrew again to install rtmidi however I noticed that it installed rtmidi-2.1.1 and I get the same message that it does not load library librtmidi.2.1.0.dylib.
I am way out of my league with this and have no idea if it will help at all but just wanted to send you a report. Thank you for all the good work on Giada.

Thanks D1RTY, indeed there's a mess with the dynamic linking. Here we go with another experimental version that should fix the issue:

giada-2016-05-28.zip

Thanks FFT!
I was able to successfully open and run the "giada-2016-05-28.zip" on OSX 10.9.5.
I was also able to successfully load previous projects(s) that I made with giada 0.11.2. I also could save and re-open projects.
Furthermore, I was also able scan my vst plugins folder and they load as well (except for 32 bit plugins but I totally understand because it is clearly stated in the documentation that 64 bit giada requires 64 bit plugins; oh but I miss having TAL Dub III).
Also, I have not made a new midi lightning map file just yet but the experimental version "giada-2016-05-28.zip" still read and utilized my old lightning map so that was cool.
Awesome work - Thank You!

Now for the bad news. The "giada-2016-05-28.zip" crashes on me every time I tried to load a new vst. I get this message:
Segmentation fault: 11
Clicking the FX button on sample or midi channel will open the vst stack without problem. I can also open the GUI of any vst in the stack without problem. But when I attempt to load a new vst then "giada-2016-05-28.zip" will crash.

I also notice when I open "giada-2016-05-28.zip" that I sometimes see the following output:
JUCE v4.1.0
[init] Giada 0.12.2 - Sat May 28 12:15:23 2016
[dataStorageJson::setUint32] key 'plugin_chooser_x' not found, using default value
[dataStorageJson::setUint32] key 'plugin_chooser_y' not found, using default value
[dataStorageJson::setUint32] key 'plugin_chooser_w' not found, using default value
[dataStorageJson::setUint32] key 'plugin_chooser_h' not found, using default value
[dataStorageJson::setUint32] key 'plugin_sort_method' not found, using default value
[PluginHost::init] initialize with buffersize=4096, samplerate=44100

Thanks!

Strange, but I guess is something JUCE related (which is the framework in use for plugin support). Could you try to make a complete re-scan and see if the crash still occurs?

Crash fixed in 0.12.2. Please open a new bug for the VST issue.
